Hidden Gems | Beach Edition
Hidden Beaches
Being a Twin Island Republic's it's a given that there is no shortage of beaches here in T&T. Some of our more popular beaches like Maracas, Mayaro, Salybia and Las Cuevas are nothing short of breathtaking and are by far some of the best beaches for family outings and beach 'limes'.Here's a list of some hidden gems (info courtesy of our friends at CHA).
Reminder: If you can, avoid visiting any of these places by yourself, for your own safety and plus these things are more fun with friends and family anyway.
First up..
Peechon Cove

| Peechon Cove (Photo creds: CHA Website) |
Location: Just off of Maracas North Coast Road
About: It is one of the many beaches that make up the "La Vache Bay" which encompasses beaches like Mal D'estomac, Negmawah Bay, Peechon Cove, Cyril Bay, Lovers Bay, Balata Bay and Maraqueet Bay.
Added Bonus: Daredevils can take a plunge (at their own risk) into the Caribbean Sea from a 20ft headland. There is also a 30ft waterfall along the coast and small caves that you can explore.
Terrain: A downhill trek just off the road, through thick, natural forest until the picturesque view of the turquoise waters comes into sight.
Rating: Moderate
Duration: 1.5 hours (one way)
Cyril Bay

| Cyril Bay (Photo creds: Richard Lewis) |
Location: Cyril Bay lies along the North Coast
About: It was once a thriving cocoa estate and village. With time, nature reclaimed what was rightfully hers and the bay is back to near pristine condition! This hidden gem is perfect for families and great for both folks who can and cannot swim. The turquoise waters are fairly sheltered and there is a small peninsula where you can sit and soak in the sun
Added Bonus: A small waterfall along the shoreline where visitors can rinse off after their swim
Terrain: A downward trek through thick canopy until you meet the beach
Rating: Moderate (3)
Duration: 45 minute (one way)
Maraqueet Bay

Location: Just off of Maracas North Coast Road
About: Another of the La Vache beaches
Terrain: Begins on a wide road through farm land until you emerge into dense forest. A downhill journey leads you to the emerald bay where you can see the sunlight bouncing off the water through the trees.
Rating: Moderate
Duration: 45 minutes (one way)
Paragon Bay

| Paragon Bay |
Location: North Coast- Paramin
About: This is a sheltered bay, relatively untouched by the public. It's a perfect little hideaway but it takes a little walking to get to it.
Added Bonus: At the beginning, hikers can catch a glimpse of an exceptional view of Maraval and Port-of-Spain from the village of Paramin.
Terrain: Trek begins along the paved Fond Pois Doux Road in Paramin. You head downhill via the paved road until you enter into forest until the base of the hill. The trek back up is steep and poses a challenge for even the most experienced hiker.
Rating: Challenging (because of the steep incline on the return journey)
Duration: 5 hour (round trip)
